Launched in 1902 and refurbished in 2007, the Papillon is a historic boat which has been lovingly converted into
today’s luxurious and elegant private charter barge for up to 6 passengers. The atmosphere on board the Papillon
is one of going back in time—there are no TVs, satellite, videos or DVDS to remind you of modern life, and this
makes for a wonderful escape into the vintage world of gentle canal cruising at the gentlest of paces. The food
and wine is wonderful and is very carefully prepared and served, with the emphasis on escaping from the ’grind’
of the modern world, thus enabling you to recharging your batteries in very pretty, restful surroundings. To help
you in this, the main saloon area has plenty of comfortable seating, a well-stocked bar, a constantly refreshed
cultural library and a CD music system. The pretty and intimate separate dining room (refurbished in 2008) is the
perfect setting for traditional gourmet meals. Cabins are a good size and exceedingly pretty, with gorgeous bed
coverings and wonderful en suite bathrooms furbished with hand-made tiles in traditional French colours that delight
the eye. The Papillon is not all about resting though! - Excursions are interesting and fun, and back on the
barge you may even be allowed to take the wheel yourself - under the watchful eye of the skipper of course!
