A valued group of Barge Company repeat clients recently cruised on her during August 2007
and upon their return speedily e-mailed us to say:
“Hi Marie,
The Athos is definitely THE BEST barge we have traveled on.
Roomy cabins and very comfy beds.
The crew was fabulous also. We all had a great time!”

In April 2007 The Barge Company enjoyed another visit to the glorious
Athos-
one of our favourite barges- cruising in the south of France, so we were already confident that these clients would have a fantastic time. You dedicated, repeat clients of The Barge Company will remember the
Athos
as the welcoming 12 person hotel-barge that cruises between Salleles d’Aude and Marseillan on the Canal du Midi and a short stretch of the Canal de la Robine close to Narbonne. But no more!
During the early spring of 2007 she was lovingly transformed into the much more spacious and comfortable 10 person hotel-barge that she is today.
Her six snug cabins were masterfully converted in a new configuration to become only five, with greatly improved, totally newly created bathrooms with classic navy blue and white tiles, and much more space for clients to enjoy. Her newly enlarged and refurbished cabins are a pleasure to behold; totally fresh and with gloriously crisp, new whitelinens, complimented by the addition of navy blue cushions and tasteful paintings on the cabin walls. We send our congratulations to Captain Julian and Barge Manager wife Dannielle on a job well done!

The Athos’ new en suite bathrooms have been given the same loving touch as the new cabins, and are the picture of simple style and classic elegance. Pure white tiles enhanced with decorative navy blue designs to set off the ‘boaty’ feel to this barge, work wonderfully (as seen below—and note those luxury ‘Occitane’ bath products!)

The Athos’ itinerary takes you very close to the Mediterranean Sea, thus day trips to
the seaside are always possible, in addition to the many suggested nearby excursions
already on your itinerary. The climate in this region is the best you will find anywhere
in France, therefore swimming, sunbathing, splashing about in rivers, kayaking,
horse-riding, and much much more, is all possible. Family groups particularly enjoy
this range of activities because it means several generations of the family can easily
enjoy the same cruise.
Athos’ cruises are between Salleles D’Aude and Marseillan or reverse, which is more or less between Narbonne and Montpellier. Owner-operated by Danielle and Julian (a lovely, and thoroughly professional Anglo-Canadian couple) Farrant and their dedicated crew, you are always made to feel exceedingly welcome on board. Gourmet food and wine from the region is savoured in great comfort each day from breakfast time through lunchtime when wines will be served to accompany the courses served or to eccentuate the choices that are laid before you in a buffet-style lunch. In the evening, either inside the large and spacious interior saloon - or alternatively on deck at the long table set out for this purpose - you will dine once moreon food that has been prepared with loving care and
savoir faire. Seated at the large dining table, you can relax and be waited on in splendour whilst admiring the wonderful scenery—of which you form a part—of vineyards, poppy fields and oceans of sunflowers. Simply watch the sun go down and anticipate the following days adventures...
