Which barges cruise in this area?
Where is it? - North East France, taking in Nancy, Saverne, Strasbourg and Colmar, going on down to Franche-Comté where Belfort and Besançon lie.
What are the cruises like? - Cruising through this region you can feel the history of Europe all around you. The Alsatian people have long prided their special land and culture, often fought over, and the Germanic influence is very evident here. This portion of France has been claimed as German soil many times throughout the past centuries and this lends the area its very historic ambiance. It is also an excellent wine producing region and you will cruise through lush green valleys with the majestic Vosges Mountains in the distance.
How does this area compare with others in Europe? -Very well indeed. The region is abounding with living history— the art nouveau movement was centred in Nancy, whilst Strasbourg speaks for itself as a centre of European culture, housing the European Parliament which you will float right past on entering this grand city. Charming Belfort and Besançon are also interesting destinations with their ancient fortified castles dominating the skyline.
Why would I want to cruise here? - Vineyards, fine wines, European history, art nouveau architecture and the fantastic art museum at Nancy, a pleasing climate, and our luxury barges, of course!
