Originally built in Holland in 1942, this 38m (126 ft) barge has been completely overhauled and modernized to provide elegant, comfortable accommodation for a maximum of 24 passengers.
Her cruise takes you along the River Garonne, Gironde Estuary and the Dordogne River; a brilliant way to explore this beautiful countryside and visit the vineyards that produce all the great Bordeaux wines. The cruise includes tours in a private air conditioned coach to prestigious chateaux, and these excursions always include a tasting, essential for understanding what Bordeaux wines are all about, learning their secrets, and delving into their history.
Regional gourmet food and wine is of prime importance on the Mirabelle and you will each day discover the gastronomic wonders of the South West France including such delights as foie gras, duck confit, oysters etc. The cruise will take you through the five major Bordeaux wine districts in keeping with the ebb and flow of the tides. The rivers you cruise forms the only boundary shared by all five regions and thus provides a unique way of seeing the entire wine country during six stopovers – an ideal introduction to Bordeaux and her wines.
The cruise will also enable you to discover the area's outstanding architectural heritage reflecting centuries of fascinating history. This includes ancient fortified castles, superb Romanesque churches, prehistoric caves, and unique Gallo-Roman sites. You will also have time to stroll around charming cities and villages, enjoy open-air markets featuring the wonderful local produce and enjoy shopping in a wide variety of boutiques along the way.
