The lovely Saint Louis is now in new and very capable hands! And, The Barge Company has just returned from visiting the barge to meet with her wonderful new owners Peter and Wendy, a charming Irish couple who are delighted to welcome all on board their sparkling new barge. Since acquiring the Saint Louis they have performed extensive and elaborate renovation and refurbishment work and she is now the absolute jewel of the Garonne Canal (Canal Latéral à la Garonne) that meanders through tranquil Gascony and the verdant Bordeaux region. Peter and Wendy like to welcome guests on board as if they are inviting them into their home, and they delight in sharing the gems of their cruise region with their guests. Gascony and Bordeaux (they offer two routes) has a fascinating heritage and guests will be guided by Peter and treated to a personal introduction to the local area: visiting quaint villages, elegant hidden gardens, vibrant local markets and of course the wine caves for some superb tastings. Peter takes guests under his wing and ensures that everyone has a truly fantastic time, and to that end excursions and visits can be flexed to guests’ personal preferences, wherever possible.
The barge interior has now been totally redecorated to provide the most elegant French ‘ambiance’ in which to enjoy a glass of wine, look at a favourite book or just sit back and enjoy watching the world float by. For those preferring life al fresco the large sundeck is the ideal spot for lazing away those sunny afternoons and simply watching the world float past.
Food and wines on board are of course excellent and all produce is sourced locally from the finest possible suppliers. Fine wines are carefully paired with the dishes served, and guests may savour the many splendid French cheeses, as well as mouth-watering desserts, at both lunchtime and evening if liked.
